Gardening at the Library of Birmingham

Library of BirminghamToday is the first Thursday in 6 weeks without our lovely Library of Birmingham volunteers. It is a sad day but also a proud one as hopefully they are all enjoying themselves in their new garden on the 3rd floor terrace of the new library building.

Of the hundreds of volunteers who put themselves forward only a handful were lucky enough to be chosen to work on the gardens. The volunteers who got through were then trained in basic gardening techniques at Urban Veg with help from the Winterbourne gardeners.

Volunteers came from a wide range of backgrounds and had varying gardening abilities but they shared one thing in common; they all had a passion to bring nature and food growing to the terraces.

The volunteers split themselves into two groups for training, one for the morning and one for afternoon. Now they tend to the garden in small groups or on their own during the week.

After getting to know the volunteers we feel that the plants at the new library couldn’t be in better hands and we hope that their time at Urban Veg will help them through the next season and beyond.

GOOD LUCK VOLUNTEERS!
